I don't think it would bother so many people if the knock-offs had different names that made it clear they were not the originals.

I think the post for 07/30 was perfect for this discussion. Thanks Ben.

What about a seat that has FIA certification? The knockoff may look similar but might not be able to pass FIA certification.

I will admit I have not read this thread but I see that it is regarding replicas, which is a sensitive subject in this industry. Coincidentally, Ben wrote a post about this very subject this morning which I think will educate anyone curious to why replica vs. original is such a big deal. Enjoy and let me know what you guys think.

It staggers me that people would actually buy a safety-related product knowing it's a replica, and in effect, may not be as safe.

Not to mention the fact that whenever i see a car with work wheels, bride seats or tanabes - things that get frequently copied i can't 'qualify' the car as being great (in my eyes) without checking that the parts are genuine. It says to me, i don't actually 'know' about cars, i'm just wearing it to say i have it.

Replica parts = deeply un-cool.

Thanks for the re-inforcement Paper Lawyer. Despite best efforts there will always be a market for illegal replicas. Good read, I will add to my knowledge base!
Why dignify illegal knockoffs with the term "replica." Just call them knockoffs or counterfeits.

I can't imagine buying a knock-off safety item such as this.

Might as well go ahead and buy knock-off brake calipers while you're at it.

Knock-off hoods, side diffusers and crap - Yes

Knock-off safety items - Shit No
