Smile Highest N/A Dyno for AP2

Hello everyone! This weekend Giles came down from NH to tune for the s2katlanta club and I was excited, but very upset with the outcome. I pulled 251whp on the "DYNAPACK" which reads higher than most dyno. My mods are AUT Cooling Plate, J's thermostat, J's Radiator cap, T1R 70R-EM, T1R 70MM test-pipe, K&N drop-in filter.

I know my numbers are decent, but we had another member pulled 251whp also but with less mods... K&N FIPK, AUT Cooling Plate, Stock exhaust/cat, thermostat?. Anyways, I am disappointed because I thought that the exhaust + test-pipe will yield me some good gains, but maybe not. I was beginning to think that maybe because I didn't remove the stock plastic air duct under the AUT Cooling Plate that my car was suffering from lack of air, OR maybe 251whp is maxed out for my cars? I also lost some power in the lower RPM range.

One of our members told me that exhaust/test-pipe might just move the power curve and not so much peak gains. what do you guys think? What is highest Dyno for AP2 to exist?

My dyno:
dotted line = stock w/ e-manage
solid line = new mods w/ e-manage

Just throwing this out there but you could quite possibly be at the limit of your stock header. According to the mods you listed both cars had a stock header correct? Opening up the exhaust after the header won't provide much benefit if that were the case. Do you have the dyno of the other car that hit 251? I am willing to bet you made more midrange than he/she did.

Just for reference I made 236 HP on a Dynapack here on the west coast. Mods are Toda Header and T1R 70R-EM exhaust. No tuning, stock airbox, stock cat.

PS. I don't think airflow is an issue while dynoing because every dyno I've been to has the hood open with large fans blowing air at the front of the car.

This is the member's dyno. It looks like he has a better low end power over mine. I'm trying to think what could have went wrong, or maybe he just has a freak of an AP2. And yes, we both had stock header.

Does your 70R-EM drone? My cruising speeds are okay, but when I press the pedal for acceleration sometimes it gets loud on the highway.

your dyno's are months apart, why didn't the tuner get a baseline right before he started to tune your car? WTH?

you cannot compare dyno plots that are months apart, it is not a good representation of the gains, or losses you made.

Did giles tune your car on 91 gas or 93? That's a big difference right there.

but even on 91 those numbers seem a little low. a stock ap2 should be hitting around 235-238 on a dynapack. I would expect 8-10hp from the emanage and tune, 4-5 from the tp, and around 10ish from the exhaust ( single right? )

the thermostat, aut panel, and rad cap aren't going to do much on the dyno in that combo, and the k&n maybe got you 1hp.

For reference at church's ( dynapack ), on my ap1 w/emanage ultimate tuned, k&n fipk, berk high flow cat, and invidia dual 63mm exhaust I hit 231hp.

I need to go back though....just put on an invidia 70mm single and my rick's header is in the mail. With a retune, i'm hoping for 245ish.

You know, you can take two engines that came off the assembly line, one after the other, and the two can put out different numbers.

This has become a pretty big problem in SCCA spec Miata racing, since SCCA is all about limiting modifications, to keep racing affordable and competitive. Well, some of the teams that have $$$$ will buy 10 Miata engines, dyno all of them, and keep the strongest one or two.

There's not much power you can coax out of our engines NA.
