Default JDM ap2 Cluster KPH to MPH theory

So i was thinking...IF you had the JDM Ap2 cluster which goes to 9k and ONLY reads in KPH...could you use a device similar to the Modfry Yellow box to recalibrate the Speedo to read in MPH?

Wouldnt it just be a simply mathmatic solution? ie MPH = kph * 0.6215

wouldn't really need to, it is not that big of an issue to learn the km equivalents for mph.

but it may be possible. as the parts should already be in your stock cluster techinically.

well the primary purpose of such a mod would be so that the mileage stays consistant not to mention speed.

It would propose a problem because you would essentially turn back the odometer

definitely don't do it if you are worried about the mileage, or selling the car later on, to normal people.

the only reason someone should do this is if they were using a different ECU such as the J's or Amuse, or a standalone setup, that needs the full 9k revrange.

I think thats a marvelous idea, because the ap2 9k cluster is great and this would facilitate its use in us cars.

Why not use a UK AP2 cluster instead of modding a JDM - speed will be in MPH or KPH (you can switch it with a button), the odometer will be in miles and the revs go to 9K since we still have the F20C.

Chris.

I want to know who's saying the JDM cluster doesnt have the ability to flip between kph and mph? Does it not? I mean why would you make a separate unit that doesn't if you already make one that does?

but yeah, if thats true, the UK cluster would be the obvious choice.

I like having the 8k cluster and a 9k redline. That way any one that drives my car doesn't know they can rev that high. They have to go well beyond redline before the modifry shift beeper starts going off, and you would hope your friends would be nice enough not to drive your car past redline........

Chris.
there you go, that is a much better solution.

it is wierd if the JDM clusters don't have the mph/kph switch, but it may indeed be the case.
