Default Maint light after minor upgrade

So I bought my cheap fiberglass cooling plate with the scoop on ebay for $60. I install it per directions from this site. I carefully removed the plastic piece that most agreed should be removed. Now when I put the key in the ignition my maintainance required light flashes several times after I start it. What's the deal? Should I just take it in to the dealer? Did I void warranty in any way? Will it stop ?

The cooling plate has nothing to do with your maintenance required light. This is just a reminder that you are due for an oil change. You can reset the light yourself or you can take it to wherever you get an oil change done.

But what if I got my oil change 2 weeks ago from the reputable dealer?

The light comes on every 5000 miles or so, it doesn't actually know when you got your oil changed. Just reset it. I think you hold down the trip button while you turn your keys on.

You say it just flashes then goes away right? there will be a point when it will stay lit. just do the following:

Per the shop manual:

hold down the trip button keeping it held down, put your keys in the ignition and turn as you would start your car (you don't have to actually turn on the car), after 10 seconds it should reset.

Hope this helps.

We've got a pretty good FAQ section in Under the Hood section.

Thanks alot guys!!! I just found it to be a strange coincidence that the first time I tinker in the engine bay and then the light comes on. I've only had her 3 months and so I'm still in the "treat her with kid gloves" phase.

Hey WalkingDrunken ! Hows the TT ? I just moved out west about 3 months ago and miss it already (well not the cops). I got a friend named dino with a yellow ap1 who grew up in temple terrace. Small flippin world hunh?
