Default Mugen Exhaust

Hey to all of you owners of Mugen exhaust, or everyone who has been around it...

How loud is it (try comparing to a few other exhausts)?
How is the tone? F1-like similar to T1r 70r, or just purring like HKS?
I wouldn't question quality from Mugen, but is it as good as their other products?
Any power gained whatsoever? Thanks.

its a deeper tone, and it definitaly does not scream like the t1r would but why get rid of the t1r for a mugen dual....power loss!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I originally had the HKS (talk about a power loss). I loved it so much, though.

Then I joined the HP war, and bought the T1r. It felt GREAT on the ass-dyno, but it's just too loud for me. I loved it at first, but after driving with it for 200 miles I decided I just dont want to live with it. I am no longer in the HP war, and never race, so I'd rather have a dual (looks) and a nicer sounding, quieter piece.
When the time comes, I will be selling my T1r but keeping the 70mm TP for the Mugen cat-back, but will be selling it with a Ztec single cap to compensate.

I just want another change... I would go HKS again, but the muffler "looks" aren't what I am going for this time around, and I want something new. We'll see. Thanks for the input!

Should have mine on in a couple of days - so will try and give my opinions.

Moving from an Invidia, so understand what you mean by volume reduction!

I love the way my Mugen sounds. I'm into performance but can't take too loud of an exhaust. If I build a track only car i'll put a T1R or J's single on, but not for daily driving.

That's what I'm saying.
a 10hp difference is a LOT relatively speaking, but if Im not racing others (I might go through my gears getting on the freeway, or race myself on an Auto-X ring) than what difference does that much make... I'd rather have the quieter setup now.

How does the Mugen exhaust sound/change when combined with a header and test pipe?

Without a test pipe or header the Mugen is *very* quiet. It's actually too quiet for my taste. Haven't heard one with a header/test pipe setup yet. It's beautifully made and very light for a dual but not very aggressive sounding at all.

The next time you auto-x you'll see/hear one in person. John Floyd runs one on his NFR AP1.

You know my opinion on the Invidia.

Yeah, I like to stay as far away from Invidia as well.
I hope to hear John's this summer.
Ironically, my best buddy (kpxguy) has Mugen header, T1r TP, and Mugen exhaust... But I never paid close attn to listening because I never considered buying it, and now he's down in Oregon. Ill hear it in Feb!
Now I am looking closesly at T1r Sparrow. My 70r is just too damn loud.

Similar set up to mine - Mugen header, custom test pipe and soon to be Mugen exhaust!

The set up on my 01 was J's intake, J's header and Mugen exhaust. After a few miles, a couple of autox days and track days at Pocono, the sound got much louder then when I first put the Mugen on.

I put the same exhaust on my 05.
