Default Need Opinions on Koni's

Hello everyone, I have a set of H&R sport springs in my garage and I am debating if I should pick up some Koni Yellows to match it up with. I can get the Koni Yellow at a decent price, but I would like to know everyones opnion, because my other option is to sell the springs and get a full coilover setup, looking at the T1Rs or PSS9. Opinions are welcomed Thanks!

If cost is not a consideration, then go the PSS9 or KW Varient 3. Koni are single adj (rebound only)...PSS9 and KW V3 are double adj (compression & rebound...note the PSS9 adjusts comp&rebound simultaneously, while the KWs adjusts them individually).

I have the Koni's with stock springs and I'd rate them slightly better than stock. However, they are pretty inexpensive, can lower the car slightly even with stock springs, and it is pretty nice to be able to run them stiff on the track and full soft for the daily commute. If cost isn't an issue, I'd lean toward the PSS9's, but the Koni's do what I need just fine.

Well it depends on one thing really -- what are you going to use the setup for? Do you track the car often, or ever? Do you want a soft ride for daily driving, a firm ride for occasional twisties, or a planted ride for track?

The H&R/Koni combo will be as soft as you want it to be, but won't really be able to compete with the handling capabilities of any of the other setups mentioned. Briefly, here is what my opinon is:

The T1R coilovers, while double-adjustable, are twin-tube shocks and are more for comfortable street driving with the ability to go to the track.

The PSS9 coilovers are a sweet setup that you can track very well. They are mono-tube shocks that are more performance-oriented, but the coilovers come with springs that are soft enough that you can drive the car daily.

Personally, I would go with a set of KWv3s, PSS9s, or the adjustable Spoon setup (mmm, remote resavoir, JDM, Showa coilovers, mmm) for a more performance-oriented setup. If you just want a set of coilovers to be able to adjust your suspension a bit more, drop it to the ground, or take your car to the track twice a year then the T1R setup would probably be more up your alley.

I had a set of Konis on my car. They were outstanding. They can handle spring rates up to at least 500lbs. If you want heavier springs in the future, you can easily have them revalved by Koni. You can't do that with the other shocks/coilovers posted in this thread.

Koni also backs their shocks with a lifetime warranty. Who else does that?

For coilover set ups that don't allow pre load, why not just use the Koni/Ground Control and get the spring rates you want from the get go? I have 0 experience with S2000 suspensions so this might have been covered here before. I just know a buddy of mine with an E35 M3 had a GC setup and liked it. Seems like a decent bang for buck setup if people think some of the other options are too soft.
