Replica kits
Look is the key word. You might want to check and see if anyone is selling a used one in good condition. From what I have heard, the cheaper one's might look good and the exact same from a distance, but don't fit as good and are not as of good of quality.
THIS is just what I have heard on a consistent basis.
I dont think there is anything that I dont like that J's has made.

Too much credit? They deserve all the credit....The are the ones who created the original design, they made the molds, and they made the parts.....the fact that someone is dishonest enought to steal their design and make an inferior product that sells for less doesn't mean they deserve any less credit. Even if the knockoff kit was the same quality, I still wouldn't support it because it's just another company trying to make a quick buck off a design that doesn't belong to them. Dr. Skipper? I don't drink much soda to begin with but when think of generic grocery store products, quality doesn't come to mind. What about artists or photographers...they struggle, produce a work....is it then right for someone to make unauthories copies of their work and sell them for profit? It's not only disrespectful, it hurts the artist's chances of earning anything and discourages him from further work. In any case, you care comparing the original JDM companies to multimillion dollar food companies. We are not huge companies owned by old men with 7 ex wives and are rolling in dough. Lately it seems like people have this impression that we make tons of money off of the products and pocket all of it. In fact, I'm willing to bet most of the people working in this industry make far less than most are lead to believe. We're in this business because we love cars and we love driving. Selling these parts means we can continue to compete with these vehicles and develop further tuning products. Knockoffs threaten the original companies ability to grow and discourage them from producing newer products. Competing with counterfeit products is not competition, it's fighting with companies who are just out to make a quick buck anyway they can.
As we know...9 times out of 10 this is not the case, the counterfeit copies are molded from a copy of the original and fitment is a big issue. (not to mention that as more copies are make from this setup, the fitment gets worse and worse) Then you can look at material....not all fiberglass is the same. The matierial itself varies in quality and the way it it used to produce the product greatly affects the quality of the finished product.
What does the end user see? The looks....and while the counterfeit may look the same, there are fitment issues to be dealt with, durability of the product to consider, and in many cases where cheap materials are used, the products ability to hold it's shape over time. So yeah...looks can be decieving.
As far as value, as I said GP Sports makes good quality products and very affordable prices. (when compared to other JDM products) I'm suprised anyone bothered to knock them off because the knock-off fitment is not quality and for a little more money you can get the real deal that fits.

Some people love JDm, just like some people love knock off. not all people see the point in spending Buku - Bucks on an accessory piece for their car. Why? I dont have the answer to that. To every man his own. Some people see a point in an authentic piece not only for bragging rights, but fitment, and also Quality. Knock off you get what you pay for basically.but in some situations such as a urethane piece compared to a fiberglass piece, durability is longer with the knock off. I speak from experience on that, when I had the Original Amuse Lip ( Fiberglass ) I used to crack it all the time, had to take it to the paint shop like every other month to get it fixed, Now when I tried the Amuse Style ( Urethane ) I drove the heck out of it, ran it down curbs, into parking stops yeah the paint eventually came apart, but the lip itself held together. Roo is right, the knock off are made from an original piece, the fitment is not 100% but people that purchase knock off know that already. I guess it is whatever works for the end user.
Original - ( Good Qualities) Quality, fitment, Bragging Rights
( Bad Qualities ) High Price, Long wait Times
Knock Offs ( GOod Qualities ) Cheap Price, Fast Turnaround, In some cases ( urethane / fiberglass ) - Longer durability
( Bad Qualities ) - Fitment, can't say its real

For some people they see something and they want it, so they buy it, regardless of price. About the only "style" parts I have had on my car are the CF trunks and I must say they work just fine. Yeah, maybe they wont last as long but if I can get a good year out of it for $300 then its all good.
Same can be said for knockoff kits really.
I also look at the fact that this is not some cheap civic or integra ( I have both by the way) and you want to put knockoff parts on the S2000? To me its worth the extra few bucks to buy original because this is a classic sports car and I dont want some knock off that wont last 6 months on the car and has all sorts of fitment issues on top of the many extra hours of bodywork needed to make the part fix and then there is still no guarntees. Again this is just me.
However, I see nothing wrong with people buying knockoff parts because some people are not as fortunate as the next guy and food on the table may be more important to them then a $3000 hood. Make sense? It does to me.
Greg,
You have some good points.
Oh and I might add on the quality point as well, that I do feel that there is no point in adding anything to a car that does not make it better than stock in some way.... better looking (to your personal taste of course), lighter, more powerful, better handling, more fun to drive (ice), etc....
In my opinion, the OEM pieces are better than the knockoff pieces in terms of quality. In some cases even the authentic merchandise isnt even as good as OEM in my opinion
My point is that if food on the table is more important than my preferenece would be to leave your car stock as the pieces you have stock are better than the cheap knock off stuff anyway
Thats my 0.02 as well so I guess I added 0.04
