Default Spoon versus J's front bumper opinions

Hey all,

I was considering a J's front bumper and can still get one within the next couple of weeks if I so choose.

But I went by the shop (speedstar.ca) and they have a Spoon front clip they just got in. They are adapting the fogs on it to run HID's, and it has intakes for the J's/Mugen intake and brake duct inlets as well.

I have seen pictures of it and thought it was kind of cool but over the top for the street - but after seeing it in person I have to say it is way more understated than originally anticipated. Plus the idea of HID fogs would be pretty unique and awesome (the bumper comes with a wireless switch to activate them).

Many people (10 or so) in Toronto already have the J's bumper. This is the first Spoon I have seen.

My car is black, so I think it won't look too crazy like if it were red or yellow.

What do you guys think? I'm trying to keep my car not-too-crazy - a nice blend of form and track functionality.

Spoon is definately more rare.... but on Berlina it looks really good. I've always like the Spoon front but some people find that it's too busy..

Preference...

I'm not a big fan of Spoon....but I love the recessed fogs but I would use gold ion bulbs instead of HID...that would make them more functional as HID with HID does not contrast well.

if you get the Spoon front, you must be a Spoon . otherwise spo-com is so wrong...

I was a spoon whore, bought the motor, and now I'm boosting it... so what?

IMHO, if you are planning on getting some sides and rear to compliment it, do the spoon... No offence to anyone intended, but the market has been flooded with J's fronts, and while I like the design, I would never buy one... The whole point of modifying a car is to improve performance and to reflect your own style to some extent... the Spoon front is functional (which gives big points in my book) and it's not something you will see everyday... I figure it will be about as popular as the Mugen SS, which is still somewhat rare, and has been out for years... Take it for what it's worth...

On the contrary, I could care less how many of each product I put on my car are already out there. Watch F1, you'll see little winglets or diffusors added on to every teams car each race, It doesn't matter who has what, or copying someone, if it works use it. I find the J's Racing bumper to be the most functional bumper out there. People say the Spoon bumper is pretty functional, but I find it ass ugly, and there is nothing lacking from my S200's stock headlights, so the added weight of fog lights is useless to me.

And for the most part, I think both bumpers are a little over the top for a street car but I find the Spoon to be more over the top than the J's. I like the J's because it has brake ducts, replaceble front splitter (CF or FRP) canards (you can run 1, 2, or none on each side), the obvious larger cooling capacity, and price.

i agree w/roo, hid on hid kinda looks kinda ricey but u can always get 2800k HID bulbs which is bright yellow for the fogs. kinda like the GS400/IS300 but much much brighter.

Honestly, I like both. Although a lot of people on this board alone have the Js front. There are only 2 that I know that are running the Spoon. So its pretty rare and functional but IMO the Spoon only flows if you have a yellow or black s2k. Any other color its to ricey. Thats just me though. The Js on the other hand looks clean if you have their entire kit like Ben over at AJ. Performance wise you cant go wrong with either. So its a toss-up.

Good luck
