Default tune for mostly stock car?

MY00. 21K miles. at the moment it is stock. plans are to keep it as close to stock as possible.
mods in mind are test pipe, header, 4.57, and possibly drop in air cleaner element.
my question is, with these few bolt-ons would i need a tune to get the most HP/TQ out of it?
if so, do i need a sperate computer to do so? what i mean is, can it be tuned right onto the stock ECU? do i need to send the stock ECU out to....say...spoon or comptec or J's? or would i need something like a VAFC or EMS?
if i do need the seperate tunning device, would a simple (relatively) one be sufficeint? i.e. VAFC. or do i need a full blown EMS?
advise greatly appreciated.
i belive there are different states of tune a vehicle is tunned for such as 1/4 mile drag or autocross or enduro race. i would want a very safe tune because this is my daily driver and i beat on it frequently as well as let anyone who wants to drive it. it has been overrevved by by others more then a few times.

thanks for reading and have a nice day.

ditch the header ideal, as headers work the best with a single exhaust. get a test pipe and a drop in and then get a vafc tune. you should get 10+rwhp easy.

Yeah man the stock exhaust is over 85db, and getting a header with a stock exhaust is a lil weird. On MY00 cars the tune is very rich, so with a VAFC you can pick up 10-15whp in your midrange and a good bit up top with just a VAFC tune ... as far as whether you need EMS, Spoon, or some other kind of standalone ECU it just depends on how far you want to go with your tuning.

You can find a lot of power in this car from tuning timing, which you can't do with a VAFC -- even if you're just doing a mild build, I think you would really benefit from an EMS. Then again, it's kinda pricey and takes a while to tune, plus you might not want to replace your whole ECU. In that case, a Greddy E-manage Ultimate is a great way to go, and if you search this forum you'll find a few people who have made great power gains with one, plus it's about half the cost of an EMS.

ok, so what if i go with a mugen exhaust? j's header, test pipe, and mugen exhaust. is that a good idea/combo?

the j's header is a top end header made for peak power, while the mugen exhuast is made for low-mid range power.

i'd go with a j's header and a single if your looking going for big power.

Stock exhaust at 9k rpms from about 4 feet back is 92.5dB. I would know, I measured it for a comparison video I did

thanks.

i'm looking mostly for midrange gains. i like how the mugen sounds and is not fart-can loud, which i would do anything to avoid. what header-exhaust combo do you recomend.
