tuning with SAFC or Greddy Emanage on N/A
Hey guys.....
i just purchased a 2.5 inch cat back with a test pipe and dual magnaflow mufflers from Turbo-mafia.com. I have a K&N FIPK as well. NOW.......i DO PLAN on going greddy turbo later......but if i dont....i just wanna make sure i have something.. Now.....would i benifit at all for having a SuperAFC tune my car after the install of the exhaust products? or no? would i be better off going greddy emanage instead? i can get turbo kits with FMU for like 3400 bucks and since i would already have the emanage, i would be kinda set for that if i get teh fuel pump and the injectors. but for now.........what do you guys recommend? tuning? or no tuning with exhaust stuff......if Tuning.....which one? thanks :) |
from what I read about afc's is that they loose they don't keep the tune on our cars because of our ecu. I hav a afc2 in my car and all I really did is set the vtec lower and that gave me 6 hp to the wheels. I think i set it to 5700. you can gain hp on even a stock car with good tuning but I dont think our ecu lets the afc keep it. someone chime in if Im wrong

damn......that sucks.......how much did it cost you?

I had my AP1 tuned with a safcII and got 7whp at the peak, but freed up 15hp between 8k and 9k rpm |
hey nitewing......how much did it cost you to get the Superafct II and get it tuned? is it worth it?

If you are going turbo you really need an AEM EMS stand-alone.
But to answer your question: You should use a VAFC not an SAFC on our car. The VAFC allows control of vtec crossover points. You will not see as dramatic an improvement on an AP2 by going using a VAFC...their fuel maps were much better than the AP1. But you may see 5-8whp...it is really dependent on your tuner's skill. A VAFC is only as good as it's tuner. To find a good tuner in your area, post in your local s2ki forum and ask for a recommendation. The cost is dependent on the tuner. Expect to pay between $75-175 for the tune. The VAFC will keep it's tune for WOT...the ecu does not learn the maps for WOT. For partial throttle the ecu will re-learn. To get around that you simply reset the ecu before the partial tune and then reset the ecu once a week or 2hrs of engine run time. To reset, you can pull a fuse under the dash for 30 sec. The Greddy eManage Ultimate provides a bit more flexibility by also allowing you to adjust timing. |
You have to only allow the VAFCII to correct around 99% throttle, then the ECU cannot override anything.

im going n/a (eventually stroker and itb's) and im tuning w/ greddy blue emanage now and eventually moving to EMS
