VAFC2
Don't have one yet but is the VAFC2 a DIY mod or should an inexperienced tuner get a professional to adjust fuel curves? What are the potential consequences of improper tuning? How much time could one expect to shave off the 1/4 with this mod alone?
Installation can be DIY (especially with a pre-built Frog or Boomslang harness). It can be tough to get all the wires to fit back behind the kick panel however (for you or a pro).
Tuning should be left to experienced tuners with the right equipment (wide band).
Improper tuning can lead to a burned valve ($$$) if you go too lean (and you won't know if too lean unless you have a wide band).
Prob save 0.1 or 0.2 seconds...maybe. Expect 8-10hp peak but larger gains across the entire power curve.

Thanks for your input negcamber!
Just a follow-up dumb question. How is it possible to see only 10hp peak but more throughout the powerband? One post said something about gaining 30tq before vtec? Maybe I misunderstood...

The reason this happens is the fuel mapping of the oem ecu...at some points on the rpm curve it runs more richly than it needs to. By leaning the car out at those points you will see more dramatic gains.
One other method tuners use is to lower VTEC engagement...this dramatically smooths the power curve and show significant increases of both hp & tq in the 5000-6000 rpm range.
I think I understand now. So when people say "peak" power gained, they mean the highest point on the dyno curve (basically redline), not necessarily the biggest gain overall. Unlike advertising for i/e systems, which promote the largest gain at any point in the powerband. Thanks again guys!
