Of the two main spec Miata classes I recommend you go with the milder Showroom Spec Miata (SSM). There's surprisingly big money in a competitive Spec Miata (SM). I also recommend you buy a race car rather than build your own, you'll definitely save money in the long run.

David , consider Honda challenge as well. Great group of guys and if you start with a civic the entry cost is dirt cheap. The cars are pretty damn fast.

Cool. I wasn't planning on racing with the fast guys. One of the reasons I was thinking SM( I wasn't aware of the SSM class) was the high car count. I figure the well funded cars can have their race and the rest of us can have one behind them.

Piper is selling one with a cage for 3500 that is otherwise stock. As much as I want to buy one done, I don't have the money to do that. I'm hoping to put a cage in one and drive it for a year. Slowly getting all of te parts together and then have a complete car before the next season. Sounds good in theory, but we'll see how it goes.

How many cars are in a typical field?

The Civics need what, Cage, Limited slip. and a Different engine right?

Plus the usual sway bars, shocks. braces and brakes.

Older Civics had A arm suspensions, new ones have Struts.

I should have never sold my 92 Civic SI.

David - your cheapest route is probably to keep your integra and race that in HC. Part out the turbo stuff, cage it yourself, put a GSR motor in it and go do comp school. You will want a LSD but its not required. Only required to go fast. There were at least 4 integras in HC at VIR last weekend. All good guys and they are fast.

My car has a Gsr engine so that's good. It needs limited slip. My car on NT-01's couldn't keep up with a buddy from T5-T9 on summit main in his street car. I made a lot of time on him on the straights and almost all other corners, but that section is terrible. Selling the turbo could fund the LSD. But it would still need to have the brake system redone. This car is terrible under heavy braking. It gets extremely loose and has a tendency I lock up the rear tires. And it's a 4-door. I would love to put a wing on it. And the suspension would probably need freshened up. It just seems easier to part out and start with a car that is proven to be a decent track car. I dunno. I have some thinking to do.

Brake bias valve will cost you $35 and allow you to dial out the rear bias.
