It's $444 for me round trip in June for a Tues-Sun.

The car alone is ~$300 not including the cost of your train ticket.
Ah... I stand corrected. I guess in my exuberance I overlooked a number...

Airfare - 200
Rental car- 30-50 a day

What if you drove?
Dulles - Sanford = 847 miles one way = 1694 / 25mpg = 68 gallons x 3.25 gallon = 220 bucks in gas alone... but dont forget the tires, oil wear and tear on your car. Plus you might get a hotel room if you were driving, traffic etc.

450 bucks isnt that much money for the auto train. Piece of mind, relaxation. Cheap way to get your car down to FL considering all other expenses other than gas, and what could happen on that drive.

Fun trip idea- Ive always wanted to drive the S from miami to key west.

After looking at the auto train website... heres a couple interesting tidbits.

You get free dinner with wine, and a free breakfast in the morning.

They also say that a car must have at least 4 in of ground clearance, and also say that cars with low profile custom rims may be refused

I think if you can buy an advance ticket and use a AAA card, you can get a decent discount.

(or if you are and have an AARP card)

That sounds awesome. If I could convince the gf to compact her luggage to S2000 size, it might be doable.

Nice idea.

realisticly, it would be easier/ more time effiecient to just fly into ft lauderdale and rent a car. rentals go for dirt cheap. i did this a couple mounts ago and it worked out nicely.
