hey, just come to a MINI car meet and it'll convince her no problem

most of them are in the DC area but it's a short drive.

you can check the calendar here for the DC group.

cool well she is looking at three cars two of wich we havent even seen yet wich are the rx-8 and the sti so we are still unsure saftey is a huge thing with her and the awd is a plus for the sti and she like the 1.3 litre rotary for fuel if driven conservatively and she said the cooper is just plain cute

well the cooper s is the cheapest of the ones you listed.

gas mileage is suprisingly good. i get high 20's in the city, low 30's on the highway.

safety is also pretty good, so far i've seen pictures of a cooper s that rolled over (roof did not collapse), i've also seen pictures of one that broadsided a Subaru Forrester--the Forrester rolled over

so the car is pretty strong for its size, keep in mind the car weights ~2600lbs, so there is a lot of protection built in.

i'll agree the car is cute, but Mikey will also tell you that the car is suprisingly fun and handles extremely well. just go down to Crown MINI and testdrive, they're pretty cool down there.

Sure man, I'd be glad to show you the car anytime. Send me a PM and we can meet up.

I paid about $22K for my Cooper S which includes some key options like sunroof, heated seats, cruise control, etc.

I'm sure mgiang7 will concur - this car rocks!! The handling is awesome, truly go-kart like. Plus it's a good bit faster than the Cooper although not a genuine rocket. It's comfortable, has lots of features, and generally lots of fun to drive. I did consider buying an RX-8 (its price range is $26K to $32K) but it would mean trading the S2K which I did not want to do and I don't think it would be worth it as the performance level and cost is about the same.

The MINI has a 4-star safety rating all-around I believe. From the minute you sit in the car and close the door you can tell this thing is well-built and could take a serious blow. Standard equipment includes 6 airbags: 2 front, 2 side, and 2 head curtain.

My Cooper averaged around 32 mpg and the Cooper S returned 27.5 mpg on the first tank but I expect it will improve since I'm still in the 1200 mile break-in period .

well i should fess up, i've had a few thanks in the low 20's, i had one tank in the high teens on gas mileage!

if you rag this engine out, the gas mileage WILL go south on you, but in general driving, gas mileage is pretty good.

Yup...that's a big bene with a SC ...as long as you don't "rag it out" . SCs are extremely miserly on fuel when driven in moderation. Punch 'em, however, and they kinda like to gobble the octane

I'll add my 2 cents. The MINI is a blast to drive and has plenty of safety built into the small little package. My family has had our MINI since December... she's a garage queen. But she proves worthy to compete with the best on twisties!
