Default Best Compliment as a Driver

I think the best compliment you can receive as a driver is when your passenger falls asleep while your driving, this to me means alot...

1) As a Driver, it shows that you can produce smooth shifts constantly (which to me is sometimes hard with the close gear ratio of the S and the constantly seeming wet pavement we are having) as to not jolt your passenger awake, and also it shows that you can control the car and know the limits of the car to drive carefully and skillfully (even speeding sometimes) and still provide a comfortable ride

2) from the passengers/sleepy heads point of view, it shows that they trust you as a driver, and know that you can handle your car in any situation that arises. and they are pretty much putting their lives in your hands because they are even more helpless if something does happen.

I don't know maybe i am just reading to much into these things, but it just shows alot about people to me. what do you all think?

I don't agree completly Richard. I take it as a compliment when I drive like my ass is on fire and at the end of it they say, "That was fun man, you are a good driver. With anyone else I would have been scared, but with you it's fun!"

I've had that or similar told to me many times and I find it to be the best compliment.

Although my mom feels safest driving with me and that qualifies your points 1 and 2. I'm the only person she can fall asleep while they are driving.

oh dude i totaly disagree on the mom thing though, my parents thing i drive like some kind of bat out of hell or something. i guess its the whole omgosh i think my kid is some kid of street racer or something, i don't know. My mom is always looking for some kind of "OH shit" handle to hold on to. And i think it makes my dad mad that i drive better then him. Eah its a whole generation thing or something.

Hmmm. Well, I remember that my ex- hated when I drove because I drove too fast and the ride was too bumpy, and even when she drove, she didn't like the S that much fun, still too bumpy. However, whenever I took her kid (12 year old boy) out for a spin, he just loved it. But he did fall asleep on me alot over the summer last year because he said that the ride was low to the ground and the bumps and the wind noise would just put him to sleep, especially after soccer practice or a game. It was tough waking the kid up. I would shake him, crank up the music, etc. because I got tired of picking him up and carrying him. If it was his Mom/my ex-, not a problem she only weighed buck ten, but the kid weighed more than me (160ish).
So, if you guys are talking about people falling asleep on our S, maybe it's low to the ground and it rocks people to sleep, but if it's any other car... Wait I fall asleep all the time in cars when I'm tired. Maybe you ARE looking too much into this.
Best compliment as a driver IS when you drive like a maniac and everything goes according to plan or better without any incidents or accidents, kinda like what s2000raj said.

I've gotten both responses to the same type of driving. My wife freaks out but I had an instructor (at BeaveRun) that said I was so smooth that he nearly fell asleep. If I didn't know that my laptimes were good, I would have thought it was because I was going too slow

I was on a faily aggressive run and my GF at the time was with me. She was calm as a Hindu cow....no grabbing for the "oh shit bar" No tearing into my knee...very relaxed, like she was totally confident in my driving. That was a huge compliment. I think it also speaks volumes about them....it must take a lot to be at ease when you have no controll over the car. That's my 2cents.

BTW, Raj..."driving like my ass is on fire" GREAT LINE....LMFAO

i think it is good that the passenger can fall asleep. I have a hard time falling asleep when others are driving, and only do it when i am 1, extremely tired and don't care.. or 2, i trust the driver. I on the other hand, find it really offensive when they start reaching for the OS bar, or put their hands out front to brace for the upcoming turn or curve. Maybe it is just me.

for me a compliment is when my passengers tell me i change gears like its an automatic, especially the downshifts. perfect downshift rev matching is my favorite thing to do with this car.
