Commute Estimate
Starting a new job in the area and need to have orientation at corporate. This orientation is in Falls Church and starts at 8, which leaves me battling morning traffic
, something I've never done. I'm sure one of our MAIC members battles this traffic regularly and can give me an approximate ETA.
Cliffs: Leesburg --> Falls Church for 8am meeting on Monday, ETA?

big ouch if you take the toll road.
I work off 267 in Tyson's and some people stop at the Exxon right next to the airport, grab a coffee (WITH RECEIPT!) and hop on the airport access road
If they ever get stopped, the receipt is proof that they did business at the airport, haha

My brother in law was telling me that trick ^^^
I really don't travel west often. Maybe 2x a year. I avoid it like the plague. Really not looking forward to making the drive only to sit their and listen to orientation BS.
I may use that trick.

The Greenway is VERY heavily traveled from Leesburg to Chantilly in the mornings (despite the $4.00 and something toll). IMHO, it isn't worth. Believe it or not, Route 7 isn't that bad.
My advice? Try it and see if it works for you.
One thing FOR SURE... Get yourself and EZ Pass before you even consider taking the Greenway/Toll Road. The lines at the booths are MURDER otherwise.

I will only be driving this 2x for orientations. Then I'll be working much closer.
When you say very heavily traveled. Does that mean 10 mph or traffic that cruises slowly at say 50?
At this point I'm planning on leaving at 6:30am just to make sure I'm there by 8. I don't want to be the guy thats late on the first day, especially to corporate.

Greenway is expensive $4 or so each way I think. Then you still have to pay to get onto the dulles toll road too. Take 7 across.. should be faster. I had to go out to Leesburg one morning, and 7 was totally quiet.. I normally drive in on the toll road (towards the airport) and the Toll Rd is a MESS in the morning. very heavy into the city - lots of stop/go traffic.

If you are only doing this twice, take the Greenway. It is better than Route 7.

Thanks for the tips. From what I've heard elsewhere leaving at 6:30 I should be pretty safe taking 267 in.
Leaving here at 6:30. Take 267 -> 495S -> 50W (less than 1 mile) before turning toward my destination. Sound reasonable? I'll probably be hitting 495 just before 7.
Any tips on getting out of this hellhole at 4:30? Could they make the orientation any more of a pain in the ass? In addition several people in HR told me not to be late "they'll lock the doors and you'll be forced to wait for the next orientation". Is that really necessary?

Bring quarters for the toll road. $4 for the greenway.. and $.75 to get through after Rt. 7.. and then repeat.
Honestly.. if you get out at 4:30 - you might want to do a happy hour and get on the road later.. Local route (if you're taking the S)... get up to 193 (georgetown pike) and take that over to 7 W and head back that way. Slower route but it stays moving.
