Default Commuting Question (again)

Ok, I have been offered a really good job in Manassas, VA and I am trying to figure out where my fiance and I can live that will give us each a tolerable commute. My fiance works in Gaithersburg (right on edge of Rockville). We are limited by where our current apartment complex company has locations because we have to transfer our lease.

So our choices are:

McLean
Fairfax
Rockville

Each choice has goods and bads. We dont really want to spend the money to re-register our cars so that would make us lean towards Rockville, but I fear my is that my commute would suck. McLean would be the best mid-point, but is the most expensive. Fairfax she runs the risk of a terrible commute and we have to register cars, but it is about the same price for rent as Rockville.

So what do you guys think?

THanks.

PS. I know I posted this once, but now that the change is for real, I need more help.

I commute from Rockville to Mclean and I can tell you that Rockville to Manassas would suck bad.

Mclean would be the obvious choice and yeah everything around here is expensive... In the morning Fairfax to G-burg wouldn't be too bad but the evening commute from MD-VA is horrible.

SHe is a teacher and could leave work by 3 or 330 if that helps at all.

I'm sure it would help a bit but there still will be traffic...

If commute is really the important thing, then I'd say live in McLean. McLean to and from Manassas shouldn't be bad because you're going against traffic. I'd say the commute would be killer from Ffx to Gaithersburg, plus traffic on 66 is so inconsistent, she could be late sometimes. If you lived in Rockville, your return commute on 66 wouldn't be bad until you hit 495/270 where it gets really bad

^ Any additional expense of renting in McLean will pay off in less aggravation commuting. It's pretty much halfway in between Manassas and Gaithersburg. The commute still won't be fun, but tolerable for you both. Better than the nightmare trip if you live in either Fairfax or Rockville. Good luck!

thanks everyone. the higher rent means waiting a little longer to get another S2000

But I think McLean is the right choice. Happy wife = Happy life, right?
