Default Computer Related Problem CD-RW Drive

My CDRW drive doesn't work. When I inserted a CD it would just flash the busy signal then not do anything. It won't run the CD. I bought a new CDrom drive and tried to install it and when I did, it wouldn't work at all, not even open. So I put the OEM one back and now that one doesn't work at all, not even open anymore. Anyone know the problem to this, and if I buy a CDRW drive, can anyone come install it for like 20 bucks or so?

if it doesn't even open, sounds like the power isn't connected. If the power is connected, try another plug from the power supply and see if that works.. It's also possible that you connected the (i'm assuming ide) cable backwards. The third thing to check is your jumper settings on the cdrw. Make sure it matches that of your old cdrom reader.

by matching jumper settings, i mean that both are set to the same thing (master, slave, ..) . This doesn't mean that the same pins must be connected on both.

make sure you have the cable installed firmly into the motherboard and having the redline in the right direction. if you put the OEM back in, and it doesn't work.. i am going to guess you pulled the cable loose...

There were 2 cables connect to it. One was this ribbon looking one and the other was just a small cable and I put them both on exactly how it was originally. I have no clue what's going on.

Make sure you check to see if they are both firmly connected to the motherboard. Also you should have a third.. the power cable. The little cable goes to the sound card..the ribbon to the motherboard..and the power from the power supply.
