The dardest thing...
Jeff, glad to hear it worked out. I went through a similar situation in March, and in retrospect, I'm so glad that it happened. I love my new company and job. I hope you'll feel the same way I do in a year.

Congrats...
That said (and I'm no CPA...that's my *wife's* job...
), you might want to investigate what both your severance package as well as your $8K raise is going to do to your tax-basis. Prepare now so you don't get bit later
.
Again...congrats!!!

Thanks, guys... I honestly feel like just about the luckiest guy on the planet about now. Hopefully it stays this way.
The opportunity was so good and I am so anxious to get back into it that I started immediately. No break. No vacation. I am actually still pretty chilled from my little trip to California over Christmas... Another break just isn't necessary.
Besides, as many of you figured out, a paycheck on top of my severance means more toys...
Actually, for the first time in my life, I am going to be smart about the money. I have a fair amount of debt to deal with. I'll be much happier about spending money on toys if I take care of that stuff first. I may even be able to save some for the next rainy day.
