Default DIY days???

Hi folks,
I just bought a 2000 S2000 which has the infamous clutch rattle to the N-th degree. I'd like to get it fixed, but I don't really want to spend the money right now for 5 hours of mediocre labor.

I'm pretty skilled with a wrench in terms of standard DIY stuff, but have never done anything quite this extensive. I was wondering if there's anyone in the area who would be interested in walking me through it... and of course who has the tools/workspace to get it done right.

Otherwise I'll be living with it for the time being... and going deaf.

Hmmmmm the TSB for the clutch rattle is probably pretty extensive. I am not sure what all is involved in the fix, but if it involves dropping the transmission, I do know that that its not a very easy task in the S2000.

I can't be much help in terms of the actual TSB fix procesure, but if you find out what needs to be done, a helms manual would be your first stop to find out how to remove the tranny, etc

BTW, congrats on the purchase and welcome to S2Ki

From what I've seen around hear it's a ~13 hour job for a first timer. Give JCH a call (Jim Coleman Honda) and see if they can do the work under the TSB still. search for ANDYP he works there.

Review cmnsnse's post ~ 4 or so posts down. That's a LOT of mechanical sheit to do...and NOT fcuk up!

I'm considering it myself...but daaaaayyyuuuum....mess up just a little & yer in for it!

Oh yeah...the rest of the thread is worth reading as well .

I'm not so concerned with the technical aspect of it... it's more a case of requiring the right tools and environment (i.e. access to a lift) to do the job.

But thanks for the info.

I plan on installing a new OEM clutch, ACT pressure plate and hopefully a Toda flywheel in the next couple of months... myself.

I have access to an auto hobby shop on Quantico. It seems to be some work for a first-timer(me), however, the guys at the shop said they would help should I need their assistance. Lifts, tools, controlled-climate( ) are all available at a very reasonable charge. I think $4/hr for the lift. If you want to do this before I get the chance to do my own, let me know and maybe we can hook it up.

Sounds awesome! Let me know when you plan on heading down there. At $4/hr., I'm definitely in for the lift.
Even if I can't manage the clutch, there's probably some other work that I wouldn't mind getting done at the same time.
