Default Driving without a hood in MD

i'm going to be doing some work on my car and possibly taking my hood to get painted. i was wondering if it is illegal to drive in MD without a hood on your car. i don't see why there would be any safety concerns, but i want to make sure. i drove my car for about a week without a hood last summer when it got jacked...passed by a ton of montgomery county cops that just looked at me like something was wrong with me. never got stopped for it. but i won't take that as an indicator that of legality, because for the past 3 years i haven't had a front plate on which is illegal but none of them said anything about that either.

thanks

It's not legal - -but the damage is a repair order.

The fine for not having a front plate is a $40 ticket.

Just talked to a cop buddy of mine.

The cop must not have liked you

My buddy writes his tickets for $40... and it is subjective.
