Default Exhausts in MD

i've heard so many conflicting stories about the legality of aftermarket exhausts on cars. personally, i've been pulled over 3 times with an Invidia and the cop never mentioned ANYTHING about my exhaust (or front plates not being there). i got pulled over once at Dulles Airport in VA where the cop told me it was illegal, but didn't do anything (i don't think he could because my car is a MD car?). and then he said not to tell him whether my exhaust was legal or not because he "got one of these cars" (i wonder if he really did...). anyway, i just wanna know what the deal is with aftermarket exhausts in MD. OFFICIALLY.

Disclaimer: I do not in any way pretend to know the laws. I just look them u pwhen people have questions. I try to use valid current sources, but don't blame me if you get pulled over for something.

.......
maybe cops just don't care about the "louder than stock" rule, cause they never cared about my Invidia. i think this might've been referring to those whistler mufflers that were on the news for some time.

Yup. It's up to the officer. If they want to give you a ticket, they can. If they don't want to, they wont.

i guess you could argue that an HKS isn't louder than stock, though.

for those of you in montgomery county, how often have u been pulled over for a single or really loud dual? I'm welding a single right now so i'm a little worried, although i was never harrassed w/ my invidia.

Maryland police have bigger things on their plates to worry about than loud exhausts. This isn't california. It's probably still illegal though. Cops can bust your ass about anything they want though.
