After a great weekend in Marion, VA and driving the amazing Rt 16 across three mountains, I thought that might be a great place to have Fall Colors 2012. October 5-7, 2012.


The locale: Marion is a town of 7,000 and it seems that everyone there goes out of their way to make you feel welcomed. Headquarters for the meet would be the General Francis Marion Hotel. Take a look at the website, it's an amazing hotel. Anyone who was at Back of the Dragon will be more than happy to testify to that. The staff of the hotel are the most friendly, helpful, nice people I've ever had the pleasure to work with.

The roads: Back of the Dragon is 32 miles of great driving roads. There are switchbacks, serious curves, elevation changes and off-camber, descending radius turns to challenge the adventurous. All of this is connected with some of the most beautiful, scenic roads you've ever driven. There's something for everyone. Here's a link to the picture thread from the first Back of the Dragon meet.

I'm going to tentatively get a block of rooms (the hotel only has 35 rooms) set aside. Queen rooms will be $84 a night.

Get the word out. We had 19 people for the first Back of the Dragon drive. I'd like to see double that for Fall Colors. Ths doesn't need to be the largest meet of the year, just one of the best.

 

I'm very interested on this since I missed the last drive up there. I voted 10/12 to 10/14 on the poll.

 

Great. You missed the first drive, but Fall Colors 2012 should more than make up for that.

 

I would like to attend a Fall Colors event yes but I think it would be better some where up north say within an 8-10 hr drive perhaps 12. Just my opinion.

 

Maybe next year, BIll? I'd rather not go north in October in a car that's got tires that don't grip very well with low temperatures.
