Default FFR 818

Hello All,
It's been a while since I stopped by the Mid-A on s2ki. I don't recognize many screen names here. If any of the old crew is still around - I've finally gotten my 818 almost finished. I had a state trooper stop by this week to rivet on my VIN plate. I need to wrap up some odds and ends before I register/inspect it.

Looking for any inspection friendly shops in Loudoun. Point me in the right direction.

Dulles Auto Clinic, on Oak Grove Road outside of Herndon, is pretty open minded about inspections.

I would call them and tell them what you have. And any concerns you have.

Phone number is 703 481 6300. Ask for Wayne (the owner) or Jay.

Just curious.

What does one register or title a car like that as? Surely not a modern car with the emissions and safety requirements.

^Thanks for the tip. This is titled as a 2014 Factory Five Racing 818. 2014 is the year I purchased the kit, so that's why it's considered that model year. That's part of the apprehension with inspection - not sure how stringent they will be.

So does it fall under special construction or kit car status? Similar to ultralite airplane construction.

Because it is a 2014 does it need all the air bags and emission controls?

It is obviously to low to pass the pedestrian crash rules.

Just curious. Old "kit cars" were titled as the donor they were based on. VW Beetles for instance.

But this being a tube frame with Subaru as a donor makes it modern. With all that goes with that

Yes, it's considered specially constructed. That would be how it avoids today's safety standards, etc.

If you end up at Dulles Auto Clinic bring it across the street to NAPA I would like to see it.

Ask for OEM Jon. We have two.

Jon.
