Default Is this forum section where to ask about pricing?

I might be in the market (finally?) for an S2000 but am curious what pricing is too high / a rip-off. It's nicer weather now so I would assume they are more likely to hold some profit.

That said, the local dealer (Criswell) has like six or seven in stock, including two silvers - the color I'd probably get.

What sort of pricing is reasonable? Edmunds says $31,196 True Market Value, but they're notoriously inaccurate. Think it's possible to grab one at invoice or... less? Lower model Hondas go for under invoice at times when they have factory-to-dealer incentives and such... plus most Honda cars are near the end of bodystyle design runs. Is there any incentive to sell s2000s currently?

It figures tonight is the end of the month and I'm so beat from work today I'm just not in the mood to face a test drive or negotiating pricing. I did stop by the dealer though and sat in the one in the showroom. They're open for a few hours tomorrow so I could go back if I'm in the mood to buy and sell.

Appreciate any input regarding pricing. Btw, I'm in the MD/DC area.

Thanks.

Would you like me to move this to the Mid-Atlantic forum, where we are a little more tuned into what they're going for in our area?

Use the Edmunds.com "request dealer quotes" feature. That's how I got mine for right under $30k before tax/license.

I paid $29.9K (all costs except tax & license) in January in S. California for a new 05 and have seen posts for a few people who did a little better. New car sales are down and dealers have S2Ks in their showrooms with 06s around the corner. If I was buying now, I would set my upper limit somewhere below $30K, get my finances in place and offer $29K for a car that is on the lot. Be willing to walk away when they reject your offer; you can always go back without eating any crow and they'll phone you in a couple of days anyway. Take your time; it's a buyers market. I think you might be able to get a new 05 S for $29.5K if you're patient, have access to the cash and work every dealer in your area. You can buy a hell of a lot of high octane gas for the $500+ you save negotiating.

Good Luck

mad-dog is correct. The 2006 is just around the corner and some dealers still have 2005's sitting on the lot.

Now that this thread is in the Mid-A maybe one of our NOVA/DC/MD dealers will chime in?

If you like Criswell you can try and contact Nguyen in parts and see if he can help you out. He is a S2000 owner and gets Criswell to open up their service/wash bays for us everyonce in awhile for a wash/wax meet. There is a thread about an upcoming one some where on this page.

I have found internet shopping seems to be the most effective way to purchase one at a reaosnable price. I got mine at $500 over several years ago that way when everyone was still holding sticker even in February. YMMV

do it over the internet... put out a request that you're in the market for one.... and give it about a week.... you'll start to hear from dealers in your area....

when i did it, i ended up getting calls or emails from like 10 different dealers trying to sell to me.. so i worked with them and got the best deal..

Wink

I just picked one up for a tad over invoice in Reading PA for a tad over invoice last month. I think down in the DC metro area you could easiy get it for invoice, maybe even a tad under.

A friend recommeneded the service at this particular PA dealer and for a few hundred bucks I chose to work with them. Anyway, I got the car out the door (price, destination, taxes, other fees, etc...) for under $32k.

I love the car. I'd highly recommend getting one.
I may even have some of my "research" information laying around somewhere from when I was shopping. PM me if you want some other dealerships and pricing they were giving me. Best of luck!
