Unfortunately as our cars become more popular, and used ones become increasingly affordable, we're going to run into this.

Sorry to hear about this, I've had 2 cars (my officemate has had 4....) stolen from us in the past. My Civic was found in a field in Herndon, and my Integra was found in Alexandria on spare tires. I fought over the insured value of the Integra for months, I had receipts, pix, etc.

The cops almost don't care it seems, and if you have a hooked up Honda they blame you.

cops don't care.. and they always blame you before looking at other options... they even claimed that i stole my own car, then asked if i remembered exactly where i parked.. (this was at tysons)
