Default Gear install and questions

Hey all,

I'm thinking about purchasing some 4.77 gears. I just have a few questions regarding the upgrade.

1) Is it worth the extra cash to buy the comptech reinforced diff?

2) Could I go without the Yellow box?

and most importantly:

What shops do you recommend for the installation and how much would it cost me?

I want to be a cheapo and go without the Comptech diff and YB, but if the cons out weight the pros then I will reconsider. I dont plan on tracking the car, nor will I be launching it. I just want my S(christy) to be alittle more aggressive since i have a new daily driver.
Thanks guys!
Angelo

I can't see skimping on something like a diff. It is a very important part of the driveline and I wouldn't cheap out if it were me. Maybe take the middle of the road option and get the 04 diff (which is stronger than the older ones).

As for the yellow box, I like to know how fast I'm going and what mileage I'm getting, but that's just me.

If you do not purchase and install the yellowbox, you odometer and speedometer will be inaccurate .

Give Accuracy Automotive a call (548-9227) and talk to Dan or Shad.

I just had my 4.44's done at inlinePRO, one of the forum sponsors. I've got about 1500 miles on it so far and have not done the Yellow Box. This means that I have really put closer to 1300 miles on the car. You can see why you don't want this to go too long now, right? My Yellow Box just arrived and it will be done with weekend. It looks to be a very easy install. Oh yea, and I've heard too much good and too much bad about the Comptech housing and do not own it myself to make any informed recommendation there.

4.77s

Go with the yellow box. Like Aaron said his mileage with 4.44s has been affected about 13%, with 4.77s i'm sure it would affect it quite a bit more.

I think Modifry has a yellow box that is a little cheaper...

Accuracy Automotive all the way. It's near Great Bridge so when you head over there let me know and I'll roll through.
