Smile Got my car back from the body shop

After the Navigator incident a few weeks back that backed into my parked S at my work, I just picked up my car....of course it was raining but I was told if I find anything once I get home to let them know....

Upon closer inspection I can see some overspray on the molding that goes around the convertible top on the quarter panel and trunk, I can also see where the tape was pulled up and some paint came up with it, there's a nice sized gap between my rear bumper and the quarter panel where they meet by the tail light on the side that got hit, there is a larger gap under the taillight above the rear bumper where on the other side that didnt get hit it is flush, the underside of my deck lid which was replaced wasn't clear coated so it's quite dull and I could have sworn it was shiny and clear coated from the factory, theres a noticeable tape line on the inner part of the quarter panel near the rain lines inside the trunk.

This is

I guess I can take it back to the shop and let them have it for another few fockin weeks or I can try and sell the damn thing and get another.

Any suggesstions?

This sucks.

been through that before with my last car. I had to take it back 3 times and they still didn't do it right. The place I took it to was SUPPOSED to be reputable but it was just one thing after another. I don't see how body shops can do such shoddy work and then hand it back to customers and expect them to be happy with it. Hell I was dealing directly with the guy that owned the place and he looked surprised that I wanted them to do things over again.

Take it back and ask for someone in charge. Point out exactly what the problems are and make sure you are crystal clear about what needs to be done and that it will be done correctly. There is no reason that you should be inconvenienced because their guys can't do the work right.

Indeed, that is totally unsatisfactory and unacceptable. Why can't they do the work right the first time? I mean if a customer can see all the flaws in the finished work, how much more are they as experts should see those very same sub par work? I hope all works out for you.

I think the main problem is that their frame machine that they used to pull the body back into "factory specs" didn't do its job which is why alot of the parts aren't lining up correctly giving me the gaps. The non use of clear coat on the underside of the deck lid, paint work and the tape lines seem to be a rush job which should be fixable. Im just worried about the body not getting back exactly right which would mentally force me to want to sell her for a new one. Thats the gay part because Ive installed the hard top kit suspension and wheels which I would then have to transfer on over. I guess I will see what happens tmw, they said the boss is very particular about the work he sends out, so maybe he will be on my side in this case.

Thanks for the input.

I don't think they use a frame rack to bend a quarter panel back.... I don't think someone parking on your car could do frame damage.

They usually drill holes into your quarter panel and pull it out with a tool...

Ask them to replace your quarter panel or something

I was told they had me on the frame rack to pull the body back into specs....the part behind the taillights was pushed into the trunk and thats where they said they hooked the car up to the machine and pulled it back into spec...except the specs are off like a bitch

the underside of my trunk lid has a cursory coating of clearcoat, if that. It's not been repainted, so I don't think they do clear the inside of that - I'd know. I'd have polished and waxed it by now if it were cleared

Sorry about this. Really sucks, that's most body shops unfortunately. What you can do is not only talk with the manager, but talk with the "artist" who'll be doing the work (maybe not in this case since the work has been performed, but ahead of time, so expectations are understood).

Good luck with it.

edit: my bad, it IS clearcoated, but mostly just around the edges and not on the underside of the actual trunklid.

these fags are saying he been doing this shit for 35 years and that the underside of the deck lid even the edges arent cleared...then he said the bumpers have no adjustability so the gap I have can't be fixed....

maybe i should mention the fact that my dad is a corporate lawyer to them

i just want my car as close to how it was before if not the same as before

Other guy's insurance is paying for it, right?
Tell the insurance company to go after them...

IF that fails, YOUR insurance company - they can have the work done properly and then bill the other guy's insurance since that other guy's insurance obviously wouldn't return the car to "like new" condition...

Just a thought...
