Default Got a ticket in Chantilly...advice

I was leaving Dulles, on 50W and a cop said he got me on radar going 72. I was in a rental, going 65 TOPS, but that is beside the point (total speed trap). So, I was wondering if anyone has experience in Louden Co ( I think that is the right county). Lawyer recs? How sympethetic are the judges? BTW, my driving record is not great.... I've got about 4-5 tickets (I get about 1/year).

Sorry to hear this. As far as which county you were in, heading 50W from Route 28 / Dulles could be either Loudoun or Fairfax. It depends on how far down 50 you got before you were pulled. I would guess that the ticket itself would say which county it's from.

The question is, what are you hoping to accomplish? Getting a lawyer might help, but honestly, your lawyer fees are likely to be twice whatever fine you might get for a non-reckless speeding ticket. I mean, even if you get a reduction to improper driving, speeding 1-9, or something like that, you'll still get SOME points on your license. Not to mention you'll have to be present in court back in Loudon County to have the case heard. Unless there's a circumstance you didn't mention, a total dismissal is probably unlikely. Maybe if the officer and judge are feeling extra generous, they'll give you a deferred finding and let you do traffic school in exchange for having the ticket dropped.

I'm not trying to persuade you to NOT fight the ticket of course, just trying to figure out what result you're looking for.

Oh, and sorry to hear about your ticket.

^ oh, there's no way I'd get a dismissal, but I was thinking about the difference in points. If it is not that much, than it's not worth my time to go all the way back there and pay laywer fees.
P.s. the ticket was in Louden Co.

If the ticket was issued in Loudoun the judges tend to be more lenient. If it was FFX good luck.
BTW when was this? Saturday would have been a bad day to choose to speed around the Chantilly area...

Improper driving and speeding 1-9mph over are both 3pt. violations. Speeding 10-19mph over is a 4pt. violation. The best you could hope for is to get the charged somehow reduced to defective equipment, which is a non-moving violation (and will require some showing of equipment malfunction, which is unlikely on a rental car). Otherwise, you'd be spending the time and money to save 1pt on your license. Unless you're close to getting it suspended, I'm not sure that is worth it.
