Default heading to memphis

hey guys and gals i was wondering if anyone would be driving in the direction of memphis anytime in august, i have to make a drive down there, and i've never done it before. So i thought that if anyone else was going that way alittle convoy action would make it more entertaining and probubly help little ole me stay awake. Thanx all PEAce!!

I went to Memphis on the 4th. It's a long and boring drive down I81. It's the longest one time stretch on the trip. (376miles) Lots of bugs too. It's simple to get there, but it's long. =) If you are not in a hurry, take your time and figure out some things to on the way. Let me know if you need some other information.

Well, you could take the Blueridge parkway to Asheille NC and then 40 east from there.

Sorry to say, I don't think there is any other way that will get you to Memphis hard and fast. I66 west, I81 south, I40 west, (little round 'bout at Nashville), then I40 west again til you hit Memphis. I don't think you can get there any faster than on Interstates. It took me 13 hours exactly to get to Cordova, TN (which is about 25 mins from downtown Memphis)

The Blueridge parkway is a great driving road, but not if you have to be anywhere fast. Just follow MS2KJ directions.

The speed limit is 70 once you hit TN on 81, so you can make good time. Just watch out for the State police...

George

Personally I cant take more that 3-4 hours of super slab, give me mountain twisties and I can drive all day

That was 13 hours on the Interstate...and I drove 13 hours STRAIGHT. That was painful. The scenic route will take longer, no doubt. Like gfactor said, I81 on the TN side is 70MPH, although you can't really speed (I went 5 MPH over), it's faster than the back roads. (Although the views and the twisty will be great)

Well the BRP from Stanton VA, is 380 miles to Asheville NC. I think that's a full day drive from here at best. From Asheville to Memphis on I40 is about 500 miles.

Good luck on whatever you decide.
