Default headlights

I have a friend who works at a honda dealer and when someone traded in their S a little while back he did the inspection. The S had its headlights cleared out and for some reason this dosn't pass inspection so he switched them out for new healights with the amber part in it. Being a good friend he knew i had an S and saved the clear ones for me. When we put them in this past weekend i noticed that my old headlights were marked ZA on tops of both. The ones i switched them out for were marked KA. Does anyone know what this means? My guess is it refers to the model year but i'm really not sure.

I'm not sure what you mean by the "tops" of the headlights, but I would think the lettering indicates where they were made.

Honda does not build the plastic housings or the amber pieces - they are contracted out to other manufacturers.

There have been vendor changes in the past during production runs - maybe something in the headlight went to the next lowest bidder

the lettering is on the black casing. You can't see it unless the headlight is out of the car.
