help me out
hey guys. i'm buy a set of ap2 wheels and 2 tires from this guy in long island and he's quoting me $103 for the box with 2 rims, 2 tires and $93 for just the 2 rims. is it just me or do these prices sound extremely high? i called ups and usps with estimated dimensions and weights and they quoted me around $20! they said his price must be express air delivery or somethin. i think this guy might be tryin to get over on me, what do you think?
also, this is my first online transaction without ebay, so how do i do this? i wanted to avoid paypal's 3% fee, but who makes the first move, him or me?
any help is greatly appreciated.

calculate your own costs..

and choose box sizes larger then what you're assuming it'll be, and more weight then you think it'll be.... also the store will charge you for packing the wheels, (if the seller goes this route) and they'll also charge you for the box (which isn't cheap) .. i used to work at a UPS express store for a little bit awhile back...

yea ups does charge a lot for the boxes but those things weigh a lot too....I've had UPS charge me a lot more then $20 to send just a small box....his high rate sounds about right. USPS costs less then half of UPS, but I still trust UPS a lot more and like going to the little stores. They treat you well there and it's hardly ever crowded.
he got another quote for ups ground for $60 for both packages. this sounds a lot better than $200.
now as for the exchange of goods, i guess i'll ask him to send me a tracking # and then i'll mail the payment. sound fair?.

Thats something you need to work out with the seller. I personally make sure I have money in hand before I send anything. When I pay for something I always pay before item is shipped. I think you're taking a big risk not going through a company like Payapl. Paypal has a lot of loop holes too so they dont have to cover everything, but They do offer some sort of protection. If he is a s2ki member you might want to look in his area to see if he is well known. Not everyone in this area knows me for example but the people who do can never say I ripped anyone off. I wish more people were just honest, but these days you have to be careful and watch your wallet.
