Default local stereo shop

Can anyone recommend a decent NoVA (Herndon/Reston) area shop to get some stereo components & installation (not named Best Buy)? I blew one of the door speakers in my car and want to price out a better stereo.

I guess my follow on question, is what speakers/amps/subs have people dropped in their cars? I could live with the stock unit until i popped the drivers door speaker. I guess you can't drive top down on the highway with the volume all the way up.

The answer varies according to the owners budget and music taste. What I would recommend is going to a good shop, explain what car you have and ask to hear the differrent speakers/HU/amps in your price range.

There is also a great FAQ in the Electronics section...

Personally I have a Clarion HU, Polk Audio SR6500's and a JL Audio 10w6d2 all powered by a JL Audio 450/4. This set up pretty much meets my sound needs for this car.

Thanks. I've been reading the electronics forum, I was planning to see if I could just drop some speakers in, but it looks like I'll need to do a little more.

I can Alpine Type R's in my doors, Alpine Type R's in my S-pods. Powered by an Alpine 5 channel amp. All controlled with an Alpine 9855. Also I am running an infiniti Kappa Perfect 12.1 in the trunk.

It's a decent setup.

There are several sets that can "drop" in. I started with HU and JL Audio 6.5's. I know the Infinity's will drop in and so will a couple of the Alpines. The issue is for this car is that its a euro 6.5 which is actually about 6.25" and the depth is tricky unless you dont want your windows to roll down

I'm thinking about the infinity kappa's or polks. The real question is how much I end up dropping on a new HU and amp.

I had Infinity Kappas in my last car and you can't beat them for the price. I have Boston Acoustics in mine now and I can't complain.

I have (and highly recommend) Elemental Designs components. I have their high-end 6500s in my doors powered off a eD NINe.2 amp (150x2). The speakers are amazing, made by CDT and they have excellent midbass and a very clean, smooth sounding silk tweeter.

And since you can order directly from them, you're not paying out your ass for equipment.

6500s: http://edesignaudio.com/product.php?...pid=29&cur=USD
6000s: http://edesignaudio.com/product.php?...pid=28&cur=USD

They also have package deals where you can save 15% by purchasing the speakers and amp together.

Plus, these speakers blow the doors off kappas or polks, they seriously can't even compare.
