Several years ago, either the state or the county were giving incentives to affluent people to buy houses and live in the Lauerl area. Don't know if that program is still going or not, but if you called the county economic development dept, they could tell you.

I'm not a *location* snob... But I'm a S-nob nonetheless (as are a few other Mid-A bruthas & sistas! )...

My parents live in Russett - it's the Anne Arundel county side of Laurel which is the "nice" part of the town. It's safe and fine. Not a whole lot to do around there, but you're less than a half hour to DC or Baltimore. It's fine and the places are relatively new and nice.
I lived in Laurel about 15 years ago, in the same general area...The Town and Country Apts at 198 and 295. It was in Prince George's county....The bad part of laurel.

...but at least I got to see how the SWAT team worked....twice

I won't recommend any of the PG county area.....unless things have REALLY changed

There are nice parts of PG county. But the PG county part of Laurel isnt very nice. Stick with either Montgomery, Howard, or Anne Arundle. Personally, I really like Columbia (Howard County).

Not sure what you are looking for, but my apartment complex is really nice. It's called Avalon at Fairway Hills. There are 3 communities, the one I live in was just renovated. Has new kitchen, new appliances, ceiling fan in bedroom. really nice gym (as apartment complexes go), raquet ball court, personal garages avalible with keypad and remote opener ($150/month), fire places avalible. Not trying to advertise, but just saying it is a nice place to live and I only pay $1344/month for a 2 bedroom 1.5 bath apartment.

(we could even split the referal money )

from what i'm seeing on your map, since your right off the BW parkway and right by fort meade i wouldn't be too worried about it, especially if the community is gated.

the only other places i would think would be ok would be either down rt 32 or 295 down towards dc, or back up north on 295 to places up and around BWI airport. those areas are probably $$$ but nice at least

I believe there have been H20 restrictions there for several months this year. They are lifted now.

Many thanks, guys (particularly bcohan for that glowing recommendation )... it sounds like most agree the specific area I'm looking at is okay. I think I'm still going to fly out Tuesday to see the place in person, but that will be more to pick a specific floor pattern rather. I'll talk to the leasing agent later today and see if I can have the paperwork sent over. This is one of the major hurdles I want to get out of the way so I can relax my last week or two in Melbourne.

3312, unless you've lived here, you would have no idea how true that statement is. Ten years ago this place was a one stoplight town... now we have Starbucks I stayed in the artea because it was a job, even if I wasn't overly excited about it. Glad to be heading somewhere with a little more action, even if it has snow.

dmw, I'm probably looking at $1,650/month, but that includes the garage parking, etc. Because of the lease-up, the place is offering 2 months rent free, no amenity fee ($400 normally), etc. It's roughly equivalent in price to what I'm paying here in Melbourne.
