Default Need a QUALITY paint shop

Anyone have a good friend in the business, someone you trust (not just someone you know)?

As some of you know, my car was painted a candy red around mid this year while I was still in Florida. The shop that did the work seemed to start in earnest, but FUBAR'ed the job so badly, the paint is peeling from the seams outward, they missed all kinds of areas and left silver showing through, they got paint on the valve cover (among other non-paintable areas), etc. My car will have to be repainted properly come summer, but I need a written report of all issues currently wrong on the car so I can get the proper peeps to pay me some "we're sorry" dough.

Suggestions welcome...

Thanks!

Contact Pete (4theheckof_it) he apparently does very good work. Pm Link

Also you can contact Dave at Shady Grove Auto Care 301-987-8400, he's worked on pretty much every vehicle I've had for the last 15 years, from my trucks to the wife's Porsche. Tell him Mark Smith sent you. One of the few honest shops I've ever been to (mechanical and auto body), and he let me supply my own parts to save $$$.

I'll send him a PM in the next day or two, thanks guys!

I mainly want him to verify the paint bubbling/peeling issue is not any fault of mine (no way it could be since it is peeling from behind, but I need a professional evaluation on this one), as well as giving me a feel on what it will eventually cost me (<sigh> yet again!) to get it done right (and with the paint color I choose this time!).

i have experience painting but do not have a booth.
if the work has been preped properly then there should be no bubble.
I DO NOT SEE HOW COULD IT BE ANY FAULT OF YOURS.

PM peter or just stop by. You will get great service and competetive price and he's from the community.

The shop owner is a scam artist.. he's all friendly and tells you want to hear, but is continually making excuses as to why work isn't getting done on time. First it was insurance work (read, more money for them) was a priority (what a dumbass reason to piss off a customer who will give referrels and is supposed to advertise at shows for your shop), then they're backed up with so much work (even though I cleared it with their calander nearly two months ahead of time), then his mother was dying of cancer. When I went to the pre-trial mediation, his father was just killed in a car wreck. this guy either has the worst luck or has an excuse for everything. He even said to me "God hates ugly guys!" This, coming from the man who turned a 3 week job into 10 and gave me a paintjob that's falling apart at the seams... at least the ones he painted. The only thing the paint seems to be sticking to is the parts that shouldn't have seen paint, like the engine cover!

Oh yeah... I have no idea who Peter works for or where, so I can't really just stop by...

Vlad painted your car?

Sorry about that. Good luck finding a quality paint shop. I've asked and asked and I think with the way shops turn over, it's hard to find consistency... What you really need to find is a trusted and respected paint shop through classic car guys, probably - they're the ones that are more often going to insist on quality or custom paint work... Just a thought.

I'd just like to make the positive note that your car looked great to me at the wash and wax. I liked seeing an original color out there that didn't get too much attention, but also made the statement that it wasn't like all the other cars out there.

As far as Peter...I've seen work his shop has done for people including my friends. They do a good job and go above and beyond to make the customer happy which means a lot to some people. PM him. Even if you dont decide to get the work done he can probably give you a good estimate.
