New Engine?!?!? NEED HELP
hey all,
So I took my car to Browns Honda where I bought my car from yesterday. I have had the car for about a month and a half, and the night before my car overheated. I let it cool over night then i took it to Honda. After they looked at it they called me today and said I had a pin-hole in my radiator or something where all the antifeeze leaked out and caused my engine to overheat. They then said since it over heated a cylinder blew. So I ased I needed to do and they said pay 9K plus tax for a new engine and radiator! My car is a certifed honda so it carries a extended limited powertran warrenty(10 years or 100K). I asked if this will be covered under it and they said no i need to pay out of pocket.
What should i do?

That's horse poop! You can get a whole new short block for about $2500 easily. I got mine cheaper by a bunch though. Radiators go for what? $350? So let's say $3k for parts, because you'll need some new gaskets, too.
That's $6k for labor? I'd want to see the compression and leakdown test results before doing anything. If the compression numbers fall between 215-240, all the cylinders are most likely fine. If the test was done on a cold motor, those numbers may be a little lower, but they should all be close to one another. A leakdown test will tell you more specifically what has gone wrong.
If you had a pinhole leak, you most likely would have smelled the coolant or seen a puddle after driving the car and letting it sit.

Browns tried to sell me an S with a hole in the roof.... Then they sold it to another memeber and didnt even inform him about it.
Browns is shady, not as shady as Fairfax but definately shady.....

I would hope that your Certified Waranty would cover it... However, they tend to be only as good as the dealer you take it to.... My car was honda certified... It had a 1 year 12,000 mile bumper to bumper waranty (Covered my Top through HOA at Criswell- If you read the link above, I know it sucks that I still ended up with a car with a messed up to....)
Then it has the 7 year 100,000 mile power train coverage.....

See if a better Honda dealership (ie. Criswell) will cover it. - Jeremy (jnn4v)

Brown's is very sketchy. I bought my S from them new, but I won't do anymore business with them. Didn't like the sales process or the service guys. They quoted me $140 for a diff fluid change.
Definitely try the Peter route first.

Yeah - I bought mine at Brown's just over a year ago. At the time they had the only S in the color I wanted and with a hardtop, so I used them but haven't been back since.
That really sucks - good luck and keep us posted.
