Do you have any oil leaks? What is the oil level now after you added the quart? Oil starvation is probably the #1 killer of the S2000 engine.

I really don't have a probllem with 7k miles between changes for a daily driver thath isn't pushed too hard. The oil change intervall probably had nothing to do with this failure. A loose or missing oil drain bolt would be my primary suspect.

It's also possible the engine was damaged by oil starvation earlier in its life and only now caused a failure.

I'll check when I get to the car. I had a ultra-important meeting I had to get to so I rushed out of there when I realized it wouldn't start.

Yeah I don't really push it too hard, just occasionally. I've been doing about 30 mpg recently.

I don't think it's the drain bolt, as I closed that myself the last time I changed it. It was also up on a lift recently (1 month ago) and I didn't see any leaks when I inspected under the car...

On the subject of Oil Starvation - what is the real cause of that? Does the car burn oil when revving high? In the past, I have had to put extra quarts inbetween oil changes every now and then.

Typically, the older an engine and the harder you push it the more oil it burns. Track cars also lose engine oil from the PCV valve in fast right hand corners. I thought Cale lost his engine in Summit Point Main's Turn 9 when he belched a huge cloud of blue oil smoke, but it was the PCV dumping oil into the intake. A catch can will solve that problem.

Sorry to hear about this.

It could be the oil pump failed and you failed to turn the engine off. Like Pete said, if the smoke was from a belt, than there are other possibilities, but none that would generate an oil warning lamp.

what did it smell like when you opened the hood? was your engine overheated? what did you mean by "a very slight turning noise"? did you hear a rapid click when you tried to start it?
