Hey got a question for you all...

I was driving on U street going towards Constitution, come to 11th street, ( I am in the left lane) and instead of turning left I bust a U-Turn. Now there are NO no U-Turn signs, so when I do it a DC Cop pulls me over and tells me I can't do a U-turn in an intersection in DC...I am like wtf!? I tell the cop I am from Virginia and usually if I can't make a U-turn in VA that it will be posted...otherwise how am I supposed to know DC laws? Should I fight this ticket? I think I should and so do some of my other friends/family. But....I wanted to get some other feedback from so other local people here. Let me know your thoughts...

btw, I went back and took pictures of the intersection ( from every angle ) and position and also some adjacent intersections...NO no U-turn signs...

 

This happened to me a few years ago... I was riding down Connecticut, pulled a U turn and see the lights. I pull over, ask the cop what the problem was, and they told me I made an illegal U turn. Same thing with the no signage...he told me that there are no U turns allowed in the city AT ALL. Strange... Lucky for me the cop was also a biker, so we talked bikes for a minute and he let me go with a warning and a "ride safe". Needless to say I look carefully at the interesection now before making a U turn in the city.

Oops...almost forgot about whether you should fight it... I'd say go to court and just be honest with the judge. Admit you made the turn, explain that you're from VA and don't know any better , and hope they reduce the penalty.

 

for real?? cuz my friends and I are always pulling u turn in DC. sometime with cops in the vicinity. Holly shit. I better stop.

As for fighting the tkt, yes always fight - it's worth it.

Isn't it like required for them to post something that is not with the other states?

Like no turn on red. If it is a state thing, they still post the sign. stupid DC laws....
