Default QUESTION FOR Norther Virginian people

If you need to take a bunch of kids to have fun, where would you go. They range from 13-17 i think.. both guys and girls... like a day trip. Hopefully not too expensive...

Most of them can't drive, so i was hoping it was somewhere closeby.

That Karting place, where is it? and what else do they have?

THANKS A BUNCH...

The Karting place, Allsports GP is located in Sterling. They have nothing there except, well, karts and a few car magazines for people to read.

The website does, however, say that all drivers must be at least 18 and have a valid drivers license.

Phone is (571) 434-9566 or you can email them at info@allsportsgp.com

Might I suggest one of the many Smithsonian museums. You can always drop the bus, van, car, whatever in Vienna or the like and take the Metro downtown.

Lake Fairfax might be an OK idea.......lotsa woods, a water park and a huge lake that you can boat on.

The Karting place would be expensive I think.

Well ... the day-trip in DC is any of:
Smithsonian museums (I always liked the Air and Space museum, Natural History museum, and American History museum)
Pretty much something for everyone ... all in one place, and you can't beat the price:
http://www.smithsonian.org/

The White House, Congress, Supreme Court and National Archives were always good to see and tour ... although with current security concerns you'd want to check and make sure what is still possible.

Also in the same area are the National Holocaust Museum, and the US Mint (take a tour and see mounds and mounds of $$$ being printed)

And any of the monuments in the area such as: Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, Vietnam War Memorial, etc.)

All the above are located downtown pretty near each other. There's tons to do so get a feel for what your group is most interested in and plan accordingly.

Most people don't know about this place, because it's a little out of the way from the standard Smithsonian museums.: http://www.nasm.si.edu/nasm/garber/Garber.html

It's the facility where they store and restore aviation / aerospace items that aren't in the Air & Space Museum. I was there about 15 years ago and they had the Enola Gay just sitting up against a wall in pieces - fuselage, wings, etc. There were no ropes or anything around it. You couldn't climb in it, but you could easily walk up to it and touch it. It looks like it's back in the restoration workshop: http://www.nasm.si.edu/nasm/garber/enola/enola.htm

Even if you don't plan to take the kids there I highly recommend it. Price is free, but you need advanced reservations.

Oh, I did just see that the site mentions "Garber tours are not appropriate for youth groups or children under 16." so I think you'd need to do some checking.
