Default question for virginia beach crabbers...

I was thinking about going down to the beach durning the summer to do a little crabbing. I ususally go to Lynnhaven Pier. It has been hit or miss over the years. During one streach, we caught well over 100 crabs.. the next time, 5?

Anyone with crabbing experience, do you recommend another place?

Ther aren't many active Virginia Beachers on this board...maybe less than ten. I don't think any of us are crabbers. But I'll ask around tomorrow and see what I can dig up.

Good luck.

Your best bet is to find some quiet creeks in the Hampton Roads area. But I tell you, this place is seriously overfished and crabbed.

If you want to go softcrab hunting, all you need to do is to wade down some creeks and look for crabs that just lie there

ohhhh you mean crabs, like the kind you eat...
No advice man, sorry brutha. But, that sounds like a good opportunity for a get together. If someone is willing to pony up their house/apartment for some cooking of crabs and hanging out.

actually this is a very bad crab season, my family owns a house on the bay near all these crab factories, they are very small and they just aren't brining in as much. Probubly because of all the rain. Good luck, chickin necks and backs are the best bait

back when i used to crab in my backyard, drumsticks in a crabnet or crabcage worked best. and if you want to challenge yourself, attach the bait to string and slowly reeling it when you have a bite and take it in using a net.

here's a pic of a huge crab i enjoyed a couple of weeks ago in the philippines.

and here's a fork just for comparison (just the claw not the whole arm):

Rick, you took a trip to the P.I. Good, its always advisable to take some time off, get a good trip in and get ready to start busting your but as "The Turn" on the service. Good luck in residency and PM me or call if ya need anything.
