Default Reckless : 51 in a 30 MPH zone

Yes, it was definately the wrong thing to do and I got throttle happy. Can anyone recommend any tips about getting a lawyer, what to plea, what to say, anything that can help a poor schmuck like me. This is serious b/c I can get my license suspended or even jailtime . As I said, any help would be appreciated. This happend in Fairfax county so any lawyers that you recommend from this area would be appreciated. this is my first ticket ever and it HAD to be a reckless. I have a +5 record so I hope that helps.

I definately learned my lesson, its just not worth putting your life or others lives in risk for something so stupid. Definately won't happen again.

Thanks in advance.

I think you already said it.... If you have a +5 tell the judge you made bad decision and you may get a reduced charge.

I think its 17... I just got a 70 in a 55 Saturday ( not even in the S, I was in a p.o.s ford focus rental ) and I only have to pay a speeding ticket.

If you driving record is otherwise clean, you can try pleading "no contest" and ask to speak with the prosecuting attorney. Show him/her your spotless record, and ask if the charge can be reduced to something less. (I did 80 in a 60 and got it reduced to a non-moving violation.) And yeah, dress well.

Good luck!

Reckless driving in Va is 20 mph over the speed limit if the posted speed limit is 30 mph or greater. Hitting 80 is automatic reckless driving. Reckless driving in VA has a maximum jail time penalty of one year in jail, 6 months suspension of your drivers license and $1500 fine. Again, this is maximum. Many prosecuting attorneys will not speak to you at all without representation because it is a jailable offense.

If I were you, I would definitely take your car to a shop and see if your speedometer is calibrated correctly. Definitely bring your current driving record with you. You'll want to show the judge you've had no priors and a good record. If you need an attorney, I can refer you to one. From my past experience as a law enforcement officer, you'll more than likely get it knocked down to improper driving. Fairfax is pretty strict, so you're more than likely not going to get anything less than that unless your speedo calibration is off.

I would definitely refrain from pleading no contest.
