Recommended mechanic?
I think the starter is finally going on my wife's 1997 Pontiac Sunfire. It only has like 52,000 miles or so, but the thing is a piece of crap (it's a pontiac, what can I say). Anyway, other than that, I think the car is mechanically sound, and given that I can't sell it for much, we're still using it as a beater / her daily driver.
So, any recommendations on a trustworthy shop in Northern VA who can tell me if it's the starter or something else wrong with it and who can fix whatever is wrong?

Hey Jeremy...
with Tom. Check in with Peter first...
BUT, if he can help you, talk to C&C Express Auto. They have done some good work for me in the past. My old car had serious brake issues. It had been worked on by others and I kept getting lame excuses about how it was just a "poor design." Scott at G&C looked at it, told me what the real problem was and fixed it. I never had another issue with the car. My company also uses them for their work trucks without complaint.
I personally think that they are a little expensive, but I am a cheap SOB so I can't honestly comment. The best thing about G&C is that they offer free (yes, free) loaners while your car is being worked on. All they ask is that you bring em back with a full tank of go-juice. The loners can be a little difficult to get, so you may have to actually schedule the work.
Anywho... Just my .02. If you do call them, tell them Jeff Mortimer sent you. You may not get a better deal out of it, but those guys are really big on referalls. The place has an ol timey / family run feel about it.
Good luck! Let me know how you make out...
Jeff
