HUGE fire down at VCU. 10-15 buildings/homes fully involved.

I hope everyone makes it out ok!

Any idea what started it?

Started at a construction site for new dorms, high winds have spread it over 4 blocks or so... every richmond engine is there, one burnt to the ground. 4 engines from chesterfield and henrico, each.

There's also talk of closing down 95 due to large amounts of debris coming over it from the fire (as large as volleyballs).

They've instituted a 1 mile radius, 2000 ft ceiling no fly zone as well.

I wondered where all that smoke on 95 was coming from. It had traffic at a standstill.

OMG. Hope everyone had enough time to evacuate. That's crazy.

Last I heard there were no civilian injuries reported. I'm listening on my rescue squad radio right now. There were two firefighters injured, but nothing serious from what I understand.

This is very surprising considering how heavily populated this area is (VCU)

Yeah, the mayor was interviewed on TV and really commended the emergency crews for responding very quickly . It was supposed to be the starting line for tomorrow's Ukrop's 10K race with 10,000+ people but looks like they are changing to last year's route which is apparently close to this year's.
