Default S2000 accident / crash @ Summit Point earlier this year ?

I remember seeing a thread or 2 of a guy here who crashed he S2K @ Summit Point - I wasn't sure if there was a specific thread on this, but I wanted to know of the insurance company's position on this - if anyone here remembers this post, please post here - I tried searching to no avail...

thanks,
- Rick

Thanks w1ngman and andyp.... I wanted to get a thorough and real-world understanding of insurance companys' take on accidents that occur at events like FATT, and other similar events... I had the pleasure of partaking in a couple FATT events thissummer, but I was recently told that insurance companies are on the fence on covering any claims that occur during these events... and this is going to impact whether or not I will do another event or not...

thanks guys...

Yeah...I had an "off" at Summit and never told the insurance company. Later I did mention it "hypothetically", and the agent said they'd be VERY reluctant to cover any damage, and that my rates would probably go up knowing that I track my car.

S2KBLUE - without disclosing information you are not comfortable sharing, did you have an accident that you fixed on your own without insurance kicking in? This is my fear, now, in that I damage my car (or total it) and insurance does not cover me... That would be a fantastic way for me to lose $30K over nights...

thanks,
- Rick

i killed my 328 gts at summit point 2 years ago... insurance company griped for a few weeks, but paid off the whole 60k. not sure what it ended up doing to my rates since before i had 2 cars on the policy, now it is just the s2k, but does not seem mtoo far out of line. as long as you treat it right, they will look at it as a driver improvement/training course, not racing. i.e. instructors in car, class sessions, no points, trophies, timing, scoring, etc.

OK, since everyone's been wondering where I've been (answer: working my ass off), I come back to see this:

Rick-

The insurance company is paying my claim. Although I can't speak for your company, the fact that I was not racing, was attending a "driver education" course, and was accompanied by an instructor helped immensely. Had push come to shove, the head of NASA Virginia was ready to go to bat for me as well.

I strongly suggest you discuss this w/ your agent *before* you take your car out. As an aside, many a person w/ a damaged car has reported an accident outside the hallowed gates of a track.

Good luck.

Thanks Gregg & KAMcDonald - this is helpful... I planned on doing a few more runs next year, but I wanted to get some data on past "situations." It probably won't help that I was finally given the okay to drive w/o an instructor for my next FATT...

again, thanks guys and happy to hear that the insurance companies took care of you both...

Regards...
