Unhappy S2000 Homecoming v2.0 - Sept 2010

I've heard rumors, and seen hints that there are a few MidA nutjobs that are fixxing to drive cross country to the 2010 S2000 homecoming in Torrance CA (me being one of them). Who else is considering this? Hopefully I'm not the only idiot in the bunch (wouldn't be the first time though ).

I just wanted to start the thread, and start throwing out ideas about the trek (the route , stops , pace, official drink , trucker callsigns , ways to tell a state trooper to kiss my arse without saying kiss my arse, etc...)

What say you?

Unfortunate there were a very limited number of spots. Registration closed some time ago.

Hey, Ryan!

You are very definitely not the only nutjob. I'm going and so are Chip (gigdy) and Evan (Tepevan).

The three of us have sort of come up with some travel plans but we haven't spent any real time talking about it.

A 3 car convoy! Noice.

Sadly registration is closed for this, so if yer not already in, yer out.

As far as plans go i was tentatively thinking about driving out in 5 or so days (not really stopping to see sights on the way out), going to the event, staying in LA for a day or so, than driving slow like back across and really seeing the US. My thought is that the trip back will be the real bear (I'll be psyched up to drive out there, but tired of driving for the trip back), so i'd want to break up the trip back by taking my time, staying nights in specific cities, etc...

What are your takes on this? As I plotted out using my mad google maps skillz, there is a route through the middle of the US that looks like it should be 5 days of 10 hour driving days (very do-able).

That was our rough plan as well; get out there as quick as possible, party, then take our time coming home. The question is what do we want to see on the way back...

I'd like for all of us to get together sometime for dinner and drinks so we can sit around a map and figure out where we want to go.

I have VERY limited vacation time so I can't just sort of wing it and hope I find my way home sooner or later. My girl is the same way, too... We only have about a week to get home. That tells me that it is prudent to plan. But... Hell... I'm also pathetically anal.

What do you guys think?

I'm going - already have a week off before and after the event. Has anyone started mapping out a route? I was thinking about a counter-clockwise circle around the US.

That is how much time I have scheduled, too.

The fastest way out is probably I-70. We can either come home way north (like I-90) or to the south (I-40). For that matter, we could just come back I-70, too. The question is what do we want to see... My short list is Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Hoover Dam, and the Arch in St. Louis. If we go north, I'd like to roll through Yellowstone and Mount Rushmore.

I have another option... The Pacific Coast Highway headed north from LA to San Francisco is one of the most beautiful stretches of pavement I have ever seen. I've had the privilege of driving big sections of it many times but never in my S2000. EVERY damn time I have wished I had the "right" car... I think this is probably the closest I will ever get.

I have family in Santa Cruz that I can almost guarantee will put us up (VERY comfortably) for an evening if we want to take the first day of the drive home and roll north from LA to Santa Cruz. I know it isn't really in the right direction but I think it would be worth it. Santa Barbra north through Big Sur and Monterrey is just some of the most beautiful country on Earth. Again... Just my opinion.

My suggestion is for each of us to come up with some ideas on what it is we want to see. From that list we can make a route that might work.

Sound like a plan?
