Default Self Service Places in DMV

Hello all,

I just recently moved my car out to the DMV area. Unfortunately, I live in an apartment building in DC, so maintenance in the garage are a no-go.

Are there any places that are cheap and would allow either hourly lift rentals or just provide a space for either an oil change bay or a floor jack? I prefer working on my car myself.

I saw that there was a Do-It-Yourself Mechanics that went out of business a few years ago, and there is now a Sports Car Shop that charges $240 for an annual membership. $240+time is quite steep for me when I only have routine maintenance. The next closest place I found is in Glen Burnie by Baltimore.

If there's some place in the works, I'd also like to hear about it. I don't need any work done now, but I figured to find out before I really need it.

Thanks!

Welcome to the group! Glad to see you've found us on S2Ki

I'm really not to familiar with anything like that around here. I know it's a popular thing to do in Europe but I'm at a loss in the DMV area.

My buddy Chris is an ASE certified Honda technician that has insanely affordable rates and a lot of knowledge on the S2000. He's an owner as well. I can PM you his contact info if you'd like to get in touch with him for maintenance. Idk if he will lend the space to let you do your own work but you can always ask.

I know of a hobby garage (do it yourself stuff) with lifts and tools that you rent but unfortunately it is all the way down in southern Maryland and furthermore it is in the PAX naval base which has restricted access. I do not know of any other ones in the area.

There is one on Ft Meade base as well but you'll need an ID to use the bay, if you know anyone with a military badge they can get you in the shop and you can from there. They don't monitor you, so they could leave right after.

Thanks for the offer mugen_rsx09! When it comes time for the next oil change, I might be sending you a PM asking for your favorite 6pack!

Sports Car Shop no longer offers the DIY club as insurance canceled it, but i have a full service shop located in Sterling VA including Paint booth in which i can rent some space out from time to time. PM me for details.

Tried to PM you for details but your mailbox is full. Does the shop have either a lift or grease pit? Can you shoot me a PM for rates? It would be nice to have a shop option without having to crawl under the car. Thanks
