Sirens, SIRENS . . . NOT
Saturday night, I was returning from Carroll County back home to Frederick after watching my SO's kids in a swim meet. I was tooling along on Route 26 West, which is a great two lane major country road. It was pitch black. All I could see was the road immediately ahead of me, shining in my S's big blues.
I was whistling along with the music, full of the car's sounds when I cruised past a police car parked on the opposite side of the road. Lights off -- like a snake waiting to bite.
I hit the brakes as soon as I saw him and glanced at the good old MPH readout. I just pulled over. I knew that he got me.
I was just sitting there, idling on the side of the road as I watched him turn on his lights and his gumball machine and make a U turn to pull up behind me. He didn't even turn on his siren.
I started getting out my license and rolled down my window.
He finally pulled up behind me, got out of his car and made his way up to the window. He shined his light in, said good evening and asked for my license. I gave it to him, saying "Ya got me" with a sheepish smile on my face.
He must have been 25 or so. I'm almost 55.
He then asked me what kind of car it was and I told him. He checked it out and then said, "I'm going to give you a written warning. You know that you were going 13 miles over the speed limit? [That makes me going 68 in a 55 zone.] I agreed and said, with a little chuckle, that it was hard at times to keep the car that slow. He wrote me up and handed it to me, saying that I could read it, save it or ball it up and throw it out if I wished. He said good evening and to be careful. I said I would, and we parted ways
It was the first time that I DIDN'T get a ticket when I was stopped. Well, the only time I didn't get one is when my Grandmother, rest her soul, talked a cop out of giving me a ticket when I was 16 and taking her home to her little apartment.
Whew! Thank God he didn't see me a few miles back hitting 95 passing some idiot.
And, I almost turned on my radar detector before driving off . . . .

Yo Mark!
I think you're due for a little good luck after wiping out last year.
Route 26 is a great road! I've driven it several times -- in broad daylight, though.
BTW, thanks for sharing the info on Rockville Auto Body. It'll soon be my turn to talk to Mike and get on the waiting list.
Be careful out there!
