Somewhere to get a code pulled?
Sorry for the non-S2000 related post, but I was wondering where I can take my GF's car to get her code scanned. It's an '06 Hyundai Elantra and the CEL light is on. The dealer wants 42 bucks just to pull a code...even if it's a simple gas cap!
I took it to the Advance Auto Parts in Sterling and Leesburg, but they both informed me that their machine is conveniently out of order. I was referred to a local transmission shop, but the guy there said they can only scan the "transmission side"...whatever that means.
I know most places don't want to be bothered with free scans all day long, but common...the car is in warranty and the dealership from which is was purchased will not even take the 5 minutes to do it for free
The cap was loose and I'm 75% certain that that's the problem, which is why I am trying to avoid paying to have it scanned and cleared.
Anyone know of a place between Leesburg, Tyson's, and Fairfax that can do it cheap (if not free)?
...maybe I should just buy a cheap scanner from ebay...at least after only a few scans, it would have paid for itself
Thanks guys!

Thanks for the offer Peter
I went to Jiffy lube (thanks kiwi) since there was one around the corner. They tried to scan the code, but the scanner said "dealer only code" or something like that. Looks like I'm going to have to pay the $42 anyway
Thanks for the suggestions everyone

They just used a cheap-looking orange scanner. I saw the display when he scanned it and it said something like "Dealer Code" or "Dealer Only". I could have misread it though. Basically, the guy told me that it is a dealer only code and only the dealer can read it.
Sounds like a scam by Hyundai Motor Corp. to force owners to bring the car back to them and pay $42 every time a CEL comes on

I'll check them out.
