I think you can bargain with the prices a little as I did with Myer Emco when I bought my equipment from them. A little advice is you can save money and an extra amp on not getting rear speakers. High quality front components with the entire door Dynamatted is all you need. Rears get blocked in my the seats anyway so why bother. You can get a single high power four channel amp, two channles running the fronts and the other two bridged to the sub. My current setup is an Alpine CDA-7995 pre-out only headunit, Alpine MRV-F540 4-channel amp(this amp cost more than the MRV-F450 5-channel amp for some reason). Boston Pro 6.5s in each door dynamatted with Dynamat extreme, and a JL stealthbox for the sub. Simple but ask anyone who has heard it and its very clear and loud enough.

JL is overpriced, add that to Tweeter who is very overpriced and you get the ridiculous price you were quoted. Why not order the stuff yourself and do the work yourself or with a friend? Worse comes to worse, you can still take it to Tweeter for a custom trunk.

Giore,
can you tell me what you are trying to acomplish with the system? Is it going to be soley for personal listening? Is it going to be an IASCA competing sound car? Are you trying to get 'wow's out of chics on the side of the street?

$5300 is not a lot when you are doing full customre work. I spent over that on my Honda Civic when I competed in IASCA competition, and it didn't have any trick neon or mechanical parts, just a simple, clean install. But my purpose was pure sound quality and you get what you pay for.

you realize adding the weight of the stereo equipemt will impede the S2K's purpose right;-) Just had to say it, especially when people here hark over 1lb heavier wheels

Anyway, tell me what you are looking to acomplish. In pure competition, you won't need rear speakers, so long as your fronts are good and tuned properly.

Also, if you are spending that much money, they should be able to hook you. you don't have to spend list price on equipment. When i did my car I used to deal with Audio Buys and Sound Solutions (way back in the day) and I never once paid retail price. Alsways negotiate.

later

I agree about the "if you are competing" thing. Rear speakers will actually hinder the imaging you are trying to create, unless you go very high end with everything and spend lots of time tuning it.

The first thing that came to my mind was space in the trunk. The amps and subs will have no problem fitting, however, you've lost your trunk. Since you selected W7's albeit 8's, I am saying you're not concerned with sound competition. It's all about the "P-I-M-P" factor, huh? Yes, they would be tight, but not enough to really hit low. One good thing would be potentially less rattles.

Lastly, don't necessarily sweat the price of components. If you can't afford everything all at once, plan out your system as you seem to have done. Talk with the eventual installer along with your salesperson. Get everyone on the same page and go about it in stages so that there is minimal duplicate costs. So what if you can get it cheaper elsewhere. Long after you have paid for it, you will have one thought. Either you love the system or you'll think it was a waste of money. Many times that opinion will be determined by the quality of the workmanship.

System is basically for so, and for sound quality.. Not so much Sound competitions..

Ive talked with the installers and heard all the different peices.. I was thinking of a 10w7 but it basically came down to If i closed my eyes I really couldnt tell the difference between the 10 or the two 8's (yes I was listening to 2 at the same time) .. Plus over all installation size is much easier to deal with on the 8's..

Another factor is weight.. I willing to sacrifice a little here and there but not get stupid and put a 50 lbs sub in.. The 8's weight about 17 each and would require only 1 1000/1 to power them (changed my mind about the 2 500/1's) ... And then all I need is a 300/2 to power my compenents, effectivly keeping down my weight.. and helping me with a little cost cutting..

Wadda yah think
