Default Speeding Ticket Question

Yesterday I was issued a ticket for 78 in a 55 on 270N. This is the 3rd ticket (2nd in MD) that I've gotten in about the last 4 months.

My first ticket was in DE and was (if I recall correctly) a 5mph over in a 55 zone. I think these points will transfer, but I am not sure how many.

My second was 78 in a 65 on 70E.

Now this one is a 78 in a 55.

I am trying to figure out if I should just pay the fine or go to court. I'd probably only go to court if I'm near to having my license suspended because I work out of state all week and missing work is not something I like to do (I am a contractor so I only get paid for hours I work).

So my question is, how do I figure out how many points this ticket is and how close I am to having my license suspended? I've tried Googling, but found very mixed data.

The violation code is 21-801.1. One site said it is a 1-9mph over, another said it is 5 points. Can anyone help out or point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

EDIT:

I did some research and it seems that at this point, if I just pay the fine and plead guilty I will have a total of 5 points on my license. So I am not at the point where I will get my license suspended.

However, I may have to attend traffic school.

I want to make it clear that I am not crying foul on the charge or anything else. I was driving too fast and admit that. I was not the only one, but that isn't the point nor is it an excuse.

What I am wondering is if I should:
1. Plead Guilty, pay fine, move on
2. Plead Guilty w/ explanation, and see what happens (but seems guilt = points?)
3. Wait for my court date and try to get traffic school and avoid the points

Up until a few months ago I had no tickets in my 7 years of driving. But I took a job in Connecticut and I now drive to CT every Monday morning (leave around 2am from MD) and then come back from CT on Friday afternoon. So I am doing a lot of miles and tend to drive a little fast (sure I'm not the only one here ) and I think my luck has just run out.

The reason I don't want to fight it right off the bat is that I don't want to miss work. I am a defense contractor and get paid by the hour so missing work means I don't get paid. If missing work saves me from a $160 ticket but costs me 2-3 days of work it isn't worth it. It especially isn't worth it if I go to court and avoid nothing.

So I'd be curious as to people's constructive advice.

Thanks.

you would have to call the DMV and see how many points the ticket will carry. Also, they will tell you whatever else you may need to know about how soon you'll loose your license.

P.S. Slow the F**K down.

I work in Connecticut all week. I get paid by the hour. So if I fight it and miss work that costs me a good bit of money.

I am considering fighting it, but it depends what the outcome would be.

I am curious as to other's experience. Should I not respond and wait for my court date or say guilty w/ explanation?

I realize I was in the wrong and I am willing to take my medicine over it. Just don't want to have it cost me my license.

They are going to label you a "habitual offender". 3 speeding tickets in 4 months is just ridiculous.

If you speed that frequently you want to buy a radar detector.

I don't know about the MSP, but I'm pretty sure MoCo cops use lidar exclusively now.

Just commenting since this particular ticket happened in MoCo.

I know this is off-topic and I don't know what your vehicle needs are while in CT, but how about taking a train instead of driving, a lot less stressful.
